Vintage Battle Piece No. 11: A Misunderstood Suede Skirt

VV: To be honest, I find the length of this skirt totally mortifying.  I usually like something longer or shorter. So the only solution was a sexy shoe and jacket from Dsquared –otherwise the skirt would have been very sad.

JJ: What are you talking about? A long A-line skirt is my favorite wardrobe item ever. I have millions of them and you don’t need skyscraper heels to make them work. I pulled out my favorite Marni flatforms and paired it with this holy Givenchy shirt.

VV: You look like you’re going to a seminary on meditation.

JJ: Totally!  Meanwhile, that’s a compliment for me.  I’d wear this outfit in the mountains to do a bit of prayer work, or maybe a yoga retreat?

VV: You’re nuts. I’m going out on the town in my look!

Vintage Battle Piece No. 10: The Wear-it-with-Anything Maxi Print Dress

VV: I love this dress so much! It’s basically just like a maxi T-shirt; it’s comfortable, beautiful and creates an instant look anytime. You can put it with anything!

JJ: 100% agree with you Viv, Babe!  I put it with my Prada clogs which are shaping up to be my favorite shoe of the season and then threw on this crazy pants MSGM cactus print cotton coat because you know what…. Why not??!!

VV: It actually looks great with another print because the shape of the dress is very easy. You can put whatever you want and it works for every girl—girls with big boobs, no boobs, big girls and small girls.

JJ: Thrilled to have your thumbs up, by the way. But I need to understand one thing. I love Fendi but isn’t that baguette from a million years ago?

VV: No way!  I want 100 of them. I’ll never get sick of them. It’s a genius bag.

Vintage Battle Piece No. 9: The Snazzy Cowgirl Shirt

VV: God, I love suede shirts. When I got dressed in this, I imagined that I was the girlfriend of Ralph Lauren – you know, when he was young and so hot.

JJ: What on EARTH are you talking about?  The thought of jeans and a suede shirt makes me want to gag.  I can’t even look at you right now.

VV: That’s because you grew up in America and you can’t stand it anymore.

JJ: Yep. That’s right. Too many bad denim hand-me-downs from my older brothers when all I really wanted to wear was a circle skirt. Like this one from Prada that I paired with Chloe sandals and a Erika Cavallini shirt.  This is about as cowboy as I can possibly get.

VV: Your look is more Folk.  I went literal:  denim shirt by Current Eliot, and flared jeans which is the pant of the season. These are by Sea Farer, which Jane Birkin wore.

JJ: I don’t care who wore them. I wouldn’t be caught dead in them!!!

Vintage Battle Piece No. 8: The Sleek Sleeveless Coatdress

VV: So this is my Marseilles look. I was thinking of being a sexy sailor but also a bit pirate like!

JJ: With twizzlers in your mouth? Viv honey, I gotta be honest:  you look like Holly Hobbie –which was a doll we all had in the 1970s in America. What is up with those striped socks and tap shoes?

VV: I got the socks at Wait and See in Milan and the shoes are from Blugirl.

JJ: I’m over heels.  I can’t get enough of flatform shoes, even if these lizard ring ones by Ferragamo kind of make me look like a female Frankenstein.

VV: Yes.  They do. Why do you have to wear them if you’re already so tall?

JJ: I have no idea. I can’t help myself. I love them.  Did you notice how minimal I am in my all black and white outfit? All I needed was a pop of yellow with the handbags.

VV: Yep, this is as minimal as I’ve ever seen you.  Good job.

Vintage Battle Piece No. 7:  The Too-Cool-For-A-Safari Shirt Jacket

VV: So this is my uniform. This is exactly how I dress every day: baggy jeans, moccasins, and open shirt. I wear this to work.

JJ: I could NEVER work that way.

VV: I know!  But I’m so comoda.  It also works for travelling.

JJ: I can’t do jeans, let alone ripped up ones.   This is my casual Sunday outfit – vintage Mexican embroidered dress, Marni flatforms and the easy jacket.  It’s exactly what I’d wear for breakfast at Cucchi.
