La DoubleJ is a multi-tasking Milanese brand that edits the very best of Italy. Founded by J.J. Martin in 2015, the company has expanded from a shoppable magazine selling just vintage clothing and jewelry, to a full lifestyle label offering new fashion made with archival prints, cool home design and rare vintage. All of La DoubleJ’s creations—from its content, editorial projects and pop up shops, to its product design and wildly patterned showroom in Milan—are distilled through a lens of pure joy, eye-popping print and love of all things maximal and dedicated to all the Great Gorgeous Girls who rock it with style.


Los Angeles-born, Milan-based journalist and vintage collector J.J. Martin has spent the past 16 years scoping out the very best of Italian fashion and design as a contributing editor at Harper’s Bazaar USA, WSJ, and Wallpaper magazines. Her writing has also appeared in T: The NY Times Style Magazine, Japanese Vogue, AD and Elle Décor. Now Martin translates her experience as an editor into discovering hidden archives, curating under-the-radar talent, and shining the light on Italy’s unsung historic producers as creative director for La DoubleJ.


Our new clothing is made from vintage patterns discovered sleeping in the secret archives of Italy’s top textile manufacturers, printed onto new fabrics and crafted entirely in Italy. The project debuted with one signature dress in 8 historic prints and has blossomed into a full collection of must-have pieces for women, men and children with new products dropping every two months.


A line of perfectly patterned, maximalist masterpiece ceramics and linens —inspired by mythical Milanese housewives, otherwise known as Sciure — debuted at the Salone del Mobile in April 2017. Plates feature vintage patterns that have been reworked in new motifs and are intended to be layered, mixed and matched with our printed linens for a maximal table effect. La DoubleJ Housewives is in constant expansion, delivering new designs yearly.


Our color-crazed whirlwind tour flings pop up shops across the globe, including Milan’s Salone del Mobile, Italy’s famed Il Pellicano Hotel, Liberty London, Mexico’s Hotel Esencia, New York’s historic Bergdorf Goodman and Paris’ Bon Marche. With floor-to-ceiling vintage prints and bushels of vintage jewels, each shop brings La DoubleJ’s sunny, canal-side showroom in Milan (also available to visit by private appointment) to exclusive retailers and chic resort destinations for one-of-a-kind flash sales.


What started with a one-off idea from founder JJ Martin to scour the untouched depths of the historic Mantero Silk Archive to whip up new clothes with vintage prints has ballooned into an entire brand based on collaborations with top Italian talent and producers. Partnerships include Mantero Seta (for vintage prints), Bitossi Home (for plates), Mascioni (for table linens), Larusmiani (for a pop up shop & pajama), Rome based artist Liselotte Watkins (for illustrations & hand painted vintage vases), Milan architect Luca Cipelletti (for the travelling Wunderwall installation) and Milan designers Dimore Studio (for a joint pop up shop and dress collaboration).


When buzzed into life in January 2015, its expertly curated vintage fashion and accessories were all styled in over-the-top fabulous photoshoots featuring the city’s Great Gorgeous Girls, its culturati and Milanese royalty. Today, that content is still wrapped up in a chic package of top-notch journalism and photography inside the city’s high-caliber homes, shops and ateliers and featuring its illustrious homegrown women, making La DoubleJ’s shopping experience unique.


La DoubleJ also produces bespoke editorial, digital content, custom publications, guidebooks and special projects for top fashion and luxury brands. A carefully curated group of collaborators span fashion design, styling and photography, to art direction, real-woman casting, graphics, illustration and design.
