To all the sassy shamans that joined our La DoubleJ community for our Halloween Good Witch talk, grazie mille – it was a real treat for us to connect with you. We’re not about tricking here at LDJ, so for those of who missed it, keep scrolling for the highlights and watch the full recording below. Because we’re good witches like that.

Witch, please – what does the word “witch” even mean?

J.J.: “The subject of witches has been in my heart and my mind for many years now – that’s why I designed the Good Witch Dress. Before we got technology and science, the world was commanded by ancient schools of mysticism and forces – our in-built system was really the greatest intelligence system. Once you get out of the mind and out of the body, not only are you able to access different levels of yourself, but different frequencies of the universe. That’s what modern day witches do, essentially.”

So why does the world get so sassypants about it?

J.J.: “The word ‘witch’ comes loaded with so much baggage and as women we are taught to stifle this part of ourselves, the innate powers of intuition we have. We live in a culture and society that prizes logic and insists on proof and control. Everything is about control: controlling our environment, controlling people, controlling our children. The feminine energy is chaotic, it’s not organized, it’s not nearly as thought-based and action-orientated. It’s about feeling. And this is something that scares people because feelings are out of control, and a lot of us get derailed by our emotions.”

OK, I’m feeling you. So what kind of witch am I?

J.J.: “Most of us are completely numb to what our energy body, our spirit, soul and hearts can do. There are several different forms of modern witchness. We have clairvoyance, the ability to see, clairaudience, the ability to hear, clairsentience, the ability to feel and claircognizance, which is the ability to know. I want to make clear to everyone that you all have one or more of these gifts. Every single person on the planet has spiritual and psychic powers, the problem is that we are not taught it is exists and we are made to feel dumb or stupid. We have got to get beyond that, lift those veils and trust that we all have that within ourselves.”

My brain is exploding and I’ve got a million things to do. Where is this inner witch switch, and how the heck do I turn it on?

J.J.: “If you are so busy all the time with thoughts and to-do lists and weighing yourself down with negativity and low vibrational foods, then you are blanketing your antennae systems. First of all take care of your emotions so you aren’t distracted by your thoughts. Slow down. You do that through frequent and regular meditations. I’m not saying you have to sit there for an hour. I’m doing short burst meditations. At 3.33pm every day I do a meditation for seven minutes with the sacred feminine. Its key: allow space for the feminine and this psychic ability to come up.”

Wait, what is feminine energy?

J.J.: “Firstly we need both masculine energy and feminine energy to be well-rounded individuals. Masculine energy is protective, it builds energy, it moves you forward through life. Feminine energy is like the full moon, it is shining but subtle, a soft power but magnetic. When your feminine energy is working you automatically draw things to you, it is a nurturing, mothering, unconditional loving quality, but the distorted feminine energy never says no and then she gets trampled. That’s why you want to stay clean and clear with your thoughts and actions. Creativity is one of the biggest portals towards that feminine energy so use it in all ways. You don’t need to be an artist or painter or a writer to tap into it. Creativity can come from making dinner, hosting a lunch for friends, organising a club.”

I’m getting goosebumps! Does that mean I’m a witch now?

J.J.: “Every time you get goosebumps, it means divine truth has just been spoken. Create a language for yourself. Make yourself a divine being, literally. Each one of us needs to create that, where we feel like we are the divine operator. You need to think, “I don’t need someone telling me what’s going on – I know what’s going on here.”

“Creativity is one of the biggest portals towards feminine energy. You don’t need to be an artist or painter or a writer. Creativity can come from making dinner.”

So, we’re channelling divine energy and we’ll definitely be busting out those short burst meditations. What other ways can we tap into ourselves?

J.J.: “Basically you want to come into closer contact with your body. I don’t mean what your butt or bathing suit looks like in the mirror. I am talking about the somatic experience of your body, what it is feels like to inhabit and embody your bones, your cells, your muscles, fascia and organs. Your body is talking to you all the time. Psychic messages channeled through the body – that’s what gut feeling is all about. So you need to exercise. It’s not just about running but getting in touch with your body on a deeper level so you are listening to the information stored beneath your skin. Try yin yoga, meditation, stillness work, cranial sacral work.”
