Denim has always been a symbol of effortless cool—just look at James Dean and Brigitte Bardot, who both took the material once associated with coal miners in California and reinvented it as the go-to fabric for the Cool Kids. The LaDoubleJ Team sits in two camps when it comes to denim. Some of us wear it every day and would even have blue jean pajamas (ahem, Viviana Volpicella) and some of us (hello, our Editor-in-Child, La J.J.) don’t even own a single flippin’ pair.
Here’s where this season’s fresh take on the factory workers’ fave comes in to save the day and unite an otherwise denim-divided team. The new styles, serendipitously rooted in 70’s bohemian chic, gets a revamp for the modern maverick looking for something more Jean Seberg and Audrey Hepburn than “Rosie the Riveter” or a 90’s Calvin Klein model on the arm of Marky Mark.
We love the silky softness of a lightweight Chambray shirt as much as we find the grown up version of an OshKosh B’gosh mini-dress super fun for a night out. The cut of these new jeans (we love them in white!) is a far cry from those boxy Guess numbers that Claudia Schiffer wore in her heyday (#MomJeans). Denim never goes off the style radar, but the look that’s on tap now gets the LaDoubleJ stamp of approval—and some of us are, maybe, considering becoming converts!
We know it sounds nuts given our mostly jeans-less life, but we suggest layering denim on denim for a total maximalist effect; with a smattering of vintage jewellery you’ll avoid a Canadian Tuxedo Situation and look as cool as those models who shimmied down the Gucci and Valentino Spring/Summer runways. Vive la Bleu!
